I guess that depends how you look at it.

Last single 605B on ebay sold for 299.

IMO, they are worth LESS than they sold for, by a margin.

A "group buy" for new items, or a lot of items that are all guaranteed equivalent can be a really good thing.

This had the potential of a disaster, and you should be thankful that you didn't win at the final price.

Many, if not most of these were probably ceiling mounted meaning the suspension is probably sagging outward considerably. Sure you can futz and massage, and wet them, and use a hair dryer. But, probably the only way to get them "back home" is with a re-cone..................... cha ching!

So, 610 plus shipping to you, then shipping to GPA, plus cost of recone, plus shipping back to you, and now you have 605's with 45 yr old diaphragms in them for the better part of the price of a guaranteed working pair of 604's or new pair of GPA 604's.

Also, as i mentioned in a previous post, while y'all were waiting for this to conclude a foursome of 604E sold for 1400.

605's are not a bad speaker, 604's are MUCH better.

    Just my .02 y'all understand........................

You and I think alike. I expressed the same concerns to alien shore this morning on why I chose to back out of the group buy; too risky. I know some posters wanted them so hoped they won them

We didn't win. But it is O.K for me. It was right decision to bid 9K as a highest. And I knew it would be a lot of work to make everyone happy in a group buy.

So I have to thank Mike for taking this reponsibility.

    Mike

Thank you for all your efforts.
Just as well we did not get them for that price.

The last 605A I got, ( my center ch'l ) was $100 on eBay, plus shipping to GPA for recone, re mag etc...
came to just under $300 when I finished.

    It was fun.

    Re: Ebay group buy?

    Just a quick heads up.

This is an ebay auction, there is the potential for the high bidder to fail to complete a transaction which opens the door to a 2nd chance offer to the back bidder.

I didn't watch the bidding history, but y'all may end up with the opportunity to submit an offer somewhat below your high bid.

Y'all might want to coordinate a plan B. But, i think you should get a more accurate assessment of the condition of the entire lot.

    Again, just my .02.................

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It was fun.
And that is some good perspective from Bowtie and Don, both. I will keep looking for that $100 duplex
